Monocrystalline technology is currently the latest and best available on the market. It offers greater efficiency, higher capacity in lesser areas, and better lowlight performance. Moreover, most manufacturers have shifted from polycrystalline panels, so it is recommended you only consider monocrystalline PERC modules for your solar rooftops going forward.
Yes, there are several reasons to consider installing solar as soon as possible. Firstly, you can start saving on your electricity bills, enjoying free electricity faster. Secondly, there are subsidies available which may be withdrawn once Government targets have been met. That means you can currently install solar systems for a lower cost, ensuring faster payback as opposed to no subsidies. Finally, a certain percentage of transformer capacity can be reached by renewable generation in certain areas. If that capacity has been reached by existing PV plants, then approvals for new plants may either be delayed or not granted, so it is better to install now before the limit is reached.
Yes, there are currently subsidies available for installing solar in Kerala, allotted by the Central Government. These are available at 40% of the benchmark price per kWp up to 3 kW (Rs. 14,588 per kWp), 20% of the benchmark price per kWp between 3 kW and 10 kWp (Rs. 7,294) and total Rs. 94,822 from 10 kWp and above. However, due to the limitation of DCR (Domestic Content Requirement), which does not allow us to offer the best possible solution to the customer, we do not participate in this scheme at the current time.
If the solar plant is correctly sized according to your electricity consumption as per KSEB bills and some adequate buffer capacity is planned for contingencies, then it is completely possible to reduce the energy charges component of your bill to zero. However, fixed charges will still apply, which are usually in the range of Rs. 200 – 300. So the total energy bill will be effectively zero (if there is more export than import in the billing cycle), but fixed charges will still apply.
Yes, contractors may be empanelled by the Soura Program of KSEB or directly by MNRE. However, empanelment is only required for participating in the subsidies scheme, and contractors may not choose to if they are not participating in these schemes. Due to us using only higher quality non-DCR panels, we are not participating in the Central Government subsidy scheme for residential customers.
